Palermo
Nine days. Max 12 photographers. Working directly with Per Valentin.
You use the Method in real situations in the city: streets, markets, people and hard light. An assignment every day. Every evening Per reviews your pictures.

A city that asks you to look closely.
Palermo is chosen because the city asks you to look closely. The light is hard. The streets are full of people, markets and work. The subject does not stand still and wait for you.
You have to move closer and decide what the photograph is about.
The city is our working space.
See first. Photograph afterwards.
Each day you work on a new assignment. You photograph, select images and receive concrete feedback.
Over the nine days, you work on creating more connection between your photographs.

- 01
Pictures that feel like yours
Work out why you photograph what you photograph.
- 02
Light and mood
Choose how light and colour should affect the photograph.
- 03
Composition as choice
Choose what belongs in the frame and what stays out.
- 04
The coherent series
Build a whole — not a collection of single frames.
- 05
Stand by your choices
Also when your pictures look different from everyone else's.
- 06
Patterns in your work
Notice what you repeat. That is where your pictures start to look like yours.
The same questions. New situations each day.
You use the same seven questions each day: What do you see? Why should the photograph be taken? What do you include? What do you leave out?
The questions help you decide the photograph before you press the shutter.
What a day looks like.
The days share the same basic rhythm: a briefing and an assignment in the morning, photographing in the city, selection and editing, and a shared image review with feedback in the evening.
The programme may be adjusted along the way, for example because of the weather or light.
- Morning
A short introduction. The task of the day. Purpose and intended outcome.
- Late morning
Photographing in the city or on location.
- Lunch
A pause. Company. Rest.
- Afternoon
More photographing. Individual editing. One-to-one guidance.
- Evening
Dinner and a shared image review.
- Closing
Comments, evaluation and personal guidance.
Palermo, seen through the method.

Per Valentin.
Per has photographed and taught for decades. He cares less about technical tricks than about the choices you make before you press the shutter.
He is present throughout: he sets the daily assignment, photographs alongside the group and gives concrete feedback on your images every evening.
My work is not to give you my pictures. My work is to help you find yours.
